Zambian Silver Elephants

2 Attachment(s)
Just received these the day before yesterday. One oz. .999 Ag each, and the one with the gold elephants is 24k plated.

Geez, I took these photos on a fence ala TomD, but they just don't look as good as his! :Sorry: :bawling:

Neat coins nonetheless.

Nice, attractive bullion coins. Why is the inscription on the reverse printed in English? This might sound stupid but don't they speak an African dialect in Zambia?

Really cool, did you say that you got them on the cheap? I'll have to keep a better eye out on ebay, that is a great collection addition.

My photographic reputation is ruined when it gets discovered that my main technique is to spend a lot of money on camera equipment, especially lens and then photoshop.

why in English?

this from Wikipedia

Languages

The official language is English, used to conduct official business and is the medium of instruction in schools. Commonly-spoken indigenous languages include the 7 major languages: Chibemba, Chinyanja, Lunda, Chitonga, Kaonde, Silozi and Luvale. These 7 languages are taught in schools and broadcast on national radio and television. The Ethnologue report on Zambia lists 42 languages and many more dialects spoken in Zambia. A Zambian languages website lists 78 languages. Some of the difference may be attributed to dialects in the Ethnologue list being counted as languages in the second list.

No, I didn't say I got them on the cheap, unfortunately. $35 each! Can't hardly find the damn things anywhere, though, so I did it anyway. I must be going through some sort of "silver bullion coin completist" stage right now!

Stay tuned, got another surprise coming...

I'd pay $35 for them, not all day long but as a collector's item, especially the gold plated one.

Another surprise huh, where from this time Uranus?
